Tension : 20 sts and 26 rows 10 cm over stocking stitch
on 4.5mm needles.
Materials :
Wool : 12 x 8ply 50gm balls Nundle Woollen Mill Pure Wool Camel
Needles : 3.75mm, 4.5mm, cable needle and 3.75mm circular (optional
5mm needle for casting off sleeves). 2 stitch holders.
Cable Pattern :
Row 1 : purl 4 knit 8 purl 4
Row 2 : knit 4 purl 8 knit 4
repeat these 2 rows 4 times = 8 rows
Row 9 : slip 4 sts onto cable needle (CN) and hold behind work.
K4, P4 from CN. Slip next 4 sts onto CN and hold forward P4, K4
from CN.
Row 10 : as row 1
Row 11 : as row 2
repeat row 10 and 11 3 times
Row 16 : as row 1
repeat these 16 rows for pattern
LEFT FRONT
On 3.75mm needles cast on 50(54, 58) stitches. Knit 2 rows stocking
stitch. In 3rd row (WS) increase 2(2, 4) stitches evenly spaced.
Change to 4.5mm needles, knit 12(13, 15), purl 6(7, 8) row 1 of
cable pattern, purl 6(7, 8), knit 12(13, 15).
Purl 12(13, 15) Knit 6(7, 8) row 2 of cable pattern, knit 6(7, 8)
purl 12(13, 15).
Continue in this way till 94(104, 118) rows.
Armhole shaping : Cast off 8(11, 11) stitches at beg of RS row
and continue till work is 96(112, 120) rows.
V neck shaping : Knit till last 3 stitches of RS row (sl1, knit
1, psso, knit1). Repeat every 4th row till 27(29, 31) stitches are
left on the needle.
Continue till 160(176, 192) rows and stop. At this stage there should
be 10(11, 12) pattern repeats. Transfer 27(29, 31) stitches to a
stitch holder.
RIGHT FRONT :
Work as left front till 95(105, 119) rows. Last row is a RS row.
Armhole shaping : Cast off 8(11, 11) stitches at beginning of 96th(112th,
120th) (WS) row.
V neck shaping : (knit 1, knit 2 tog) - repeat this every 4th row
till 27(29, 31) stitches are left on needle.
Continue till 160(176, 192) rows. Transfer 27(29, 31) stitches to
a stitch holder.
BACK
On 3.75mm needle cast on 98(106, 116) stitches. Work in stocking
stitch for 3 rows ending with a WS row. Change to 4.5mm needles
knit in stocking stitch till 94( 104, 118) rows.
Armhole shaping : At beginning of next 2 rows cast off 8(11, 11)
stitches. Continue in stocking stitch till 160(176, 192) rows.
SLEEVES
On 3.75mm needles cast on 50 stitches and knit in st st for 3 rows
ending with a WS row.
Change to 4.5mm needles and knit in st st. Every 6th(5th, 5th) row
increase one stitch at each end of the row till 138th(145th, 150th)
row. There should be 96(108, 110) stitches on the needle now.
Cast off loosely. (HINT : Use 5mm needles to get it even).
FINISHING
Join front shoulders to the back by grafting leaving 28(26, 32)
stitches on needle.
With 3.75mm circular needle pick up 122(131, 146) stitches along
right front (pick up 3 stitches to every 4 rows), knit stitches
from back and pick up same number of stitches on left front.
Work border as follows :
Row 1 : Purl 21(22, 25), k1 p1 rib for 53(61, 67) - you should be
at beginning of V-neck shaping now - purl 48(48, 54), purl back
neck stitches, purl 48(48, 54), k1 p1 rib 53(61, 67), knit 21(22,
25).
Row 2 : Knit 21(22, 25), p1 k1 rib for 53(61, 67), purl 48(48, 54),
knit back neck stitches, knit 48(48, 54), p1 k1 rib 53(61, 67) knit
21(22, 25).
Row 3 : Purl 21(22,25),<(p2 tog, yon) rib 8 (10, 14) > p2
tog, yon, purl 48(48, 54), purl back neck stitches, purl 48(48,
54), k1 p1 rib 51(51, 67), knit 21(22. 25).
Repeat row 2 then row 1.
Cast off with 4.5mm needles.
Sew in sleeves using square set in method, sew up sides, stitch
on buttons, and you have a very nice cardigan !!
