History - Nundle Woollen Mill
The Nundle Woollen Mill has had a significant impact on the historic
gold mining village since it's doors opened on Australia Day 2001.
Backing onto Oakenville Creek where miners panned for gold more
than 100 years ago, stands an attractive woollen mill and store
evoking the ambiance of a century-old factory.
Fourteen truck loads of spinning and weaving machinery, some built
in England and Germany as early as 1915, was purchased from a small
boutique mill at Tamworth.
It wasn't the first time it had been dismantled and relocated, the
previous owner bought much of the imported machinery from Geelong
based JL McGregor Pty Ltd.

While the mill exterior is a composition of natural hues, the interior
is an explosion of colour. 8 ply, 12 ply and 20 ply yarn, spun and
dyed in an extensive range of fashion colours, has the uplifting
impact of a rainbow.
Sleek display cabinets are filled with brilliant balls and hanks
of wool, enticing experienced and novice knitters alike to begin
a new project.
For those who would prefer to take away something ready-to-wear,
the Nundle Woollen Mill has garments made to pattern by 12 local
knitters and a selection of the Nundle based label Minx Handknits
designed by Amanda Ducker.
The Nundle Woollen Mill shop opens onto an observation deck where
visitors can join a tour to view the day's tasks, be it opening
and picking bales of wool, spinning, twisting, or dyeing yarn.
